Our South America purchaser recently spent almost a month on the ground visiting prospective and existing producers of our organic superfoods. The trip began in Bolivia, where she scouted new producers of organic Brazil nuts, quinoa, chia and acai. She then travelled to Peru to visit long-term partners for organic camu camu, lucuma, cacao, maca, physalis and yacon. Finally, she visited organic chia producers in Paraguay, including field and facility inspections. Staying close to our farmers and producers, and seeing production and quality firsthand, is central to how we build reliable, long-term supply chains for our clients.

Global Demand for Blue/Green Spirulina Rising

In February 2026, the FDA in the US announced plans to reduce the use of petroleum-based artificial food colours, accelerating the conventional food industry’s move towards natural alternatives.

This has driven strong demand for phycocyanin, the natural blue protein-pigment found in spirulina, and is putting significant pressure on spirulina raw material prices in China.

Prices have already increased by more than $4 and continue to rise. We are working to secure more competitive pricing for next year, but we strongly recommend that clients secure their 2027 volumes now to reduce the risk of significantly higher prices.

Goji Market Update: Don’t Miss the Remaining 2026 Volumes!

Our July newsletter received a fantastic response. More than75% of the 2026 organic goji berry harvest is already sold.

Reduced Availability: Weather conditions have affected the crop, resulting in lower yields, delayed harvesting and quality issues. Organic raw material is particularly limited. There is also a higher demand for fresh berries being used for high-value products such as goji juice, puree, concentrate and extracts, reducing availability for dried berries.

High Ocean Freight: Freight rates are currently above USD 6,000 and are expected to remain high or increase at least until after Chinese New Year.

With available volumes going quickly, we recommend securing your requirements now rather than waiting until later in the season. The organic medium-size grade is usually the first to sell out.
